Turmeric Powder Mill & Mortar

Turmeric root is from the same family as ginger and is grown under the same conditions. Before the roots are sown (like potatoes), the soil is solarized by slowly burning coconut husks soaked in water to prevent weeds and pests. When harvested, the turmeric root is dug up, rinsed and briefly boiled to stop growth before it dries and becomes rock hard. Before being machine-cooled, the husk and other impurities are polished off, and the end result is the beautiful yellow-orange powder.

Turmeric works wonderfully in seafood dishes, barbecue dishes and curries with meat, lentils, beans and cabbage.
